GENERAL INFORMATON The Michigan Quilt Network sponsors an annual event called Showcase. This event offers a quilt show, vendors, classes and lectures. MQN members as well as non members are encouraged to display quilts both in judged and non-judged categories. Klaudeen Hansen, an award winning quilter and NQA judge will be this year’s judge and ribbons will be awarded to the winners. ENTRY RULES There will be no limit to the number of quilt entries for the 2010 show. However, each person will be limited to two (2) quilts in any one (1) category and a quilt may not have been judged or exhibited in a prior year, except for MICHIGAN’S BEST. Only the first 150 entries received in the judged category and the MQN challenge quilts will be judged. Entry forms must be postmarked by July 15, 2010. Entries with postmarks after July 15 may be returned. All quilt entries must be clean, free of odor and pet hair; constructed of fabric (three layers – top, batting and backing) and unframed or stretched on another material. All quilts entries must have a label permanently attached to the back. The label must include at least the name of the maker(s) and the year completed. All quilts must have a 4 inch sleeve for hanging sewn at the top of the quilt back. For those quilt entries that will be judged, a piece fabric should be basted over the label to conceal the entire label from the judge. Quilts to be judged must be constructed and quilted by the person(s) named on the entry form only. There is no age restriction for judged entries. All quilts must be quilted either by hand or machine. No tied comforters will be accepted. ENTRY FEE MQN members: No fee. NON MQN members: $5.00 per quilt (or you can join MQN for the annual fee of $20.00 and save the entry fee). The quilt show committee reserves the right to re-assign any quilt entered in an incorrect category and to disqualify those entries that do not comply with the stated rules. QUILT PICK-UP/RETURN Quilts for personal pick-up will be released on Sunday, September 19 from 11:30AM to 2:30PM. Your pick-up receipt must be presented at the time of pick up. NO EXCEPTIONS. Quilts that are to be returned by mail will be shipped during the week of September 20, 2010. EXHIBITION CATEGORIES JUDGED: The entries will compete for award ribbons. A written judge’s form will be returned with the quilt. There is no age limit to submit an entry. MQN CHALLENGE: Entries must follow the Challenge Rules which are: maximum size 36X48, use any technique, use any shade of neutral and any shade of green. EXHIBITION ONLY: Quilt will not be eligible for ribbons and will not receive any judge’s comments. ANTIQUE QUILTS: Exhibition only. YOUTH CATEGORIES: Ages 13-17 and ages 12 and under. SIZE CLASSIFICATIONS: SMALL QUILTS– Under 60 inches in width. LARGE QUILTS – 60 inches in width and over. CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES: PIECED-piecing predominates over other techniques in amount and effect. APPLIQUE - APPLIQUE predominates in amount or effect. MIXED/OTHER - Both piecing and appliqué used to develop design of the quilt top OR quilt is constructed using one special technique such as embroidery, whole cloth (with or without trapunto), embellishment or other surface design. QUILTING TECHNIQUES: HAND QUILTED-Must be entirely quilted by hand. MACHINE QUILTED-Entry contains machine quilting or may contain some hand quilting. For information purposes only, please indicate if a standard home machine, commercial mid-arm or a long arm machine was used. PROFESSIONALLY MACHINE QUILTED: Another person has been paid to quilt the quilt. If you wish to ship your entry, enclose it in a plastic bag inside a box, (no packing pellets please) and mail it to Dan at the above address. The quilt must be received no later than September 7, 2010. If you wish your quilt to be returned by mail after the show, you must enclose a self addressed return label with sufficient postage and insurance in the form of a check or money order made payable to MQN.
